Southgate’s long standing one-hatted restaurant will expand its operation over two levels later this year, expanding from their existing ground level location to the mid level tenancy above, offering Melburnians an opportunity to experience pristine Tasmanian produce, in a very Melbourne location, enjoying spectacular views over Melbourne’s CBD.

Downies Coins officially launches at Southgate

On Friday 29 May 2015 Downies held a special event to officially launch their new retail store at Southgate. CEO Ken Downie was on hand to host the launch of the store after relocating from the historic Block Arcade, where it resided for the past 21 years. Guests were given exclusive pre-release access to the latest in the Deadly & Dangerous Silver Coin Series dedicated to the vicious Bull Ant. Downies Coins & Collectables can be found on the upper level.

Behind the scenes – Artist Deborah Halpern on Ophelia

One of Southgate’s most well known icons has always been the mosaic sculpture Ophelia created by Melbourne artist Deborah Halpern. As part of the redevelopment, Ophelia underwent an extensive restoration and relocation to a prime position on the Southgate promenade, at the entrance to the centre.
