It’s that time of year again: the Sunday to show Mum just how much she means to you. We should be doing that all year round of course, but sometimes life gets in the way. Enter Mother’s Day on 13 May, the perfect reminder of your son and daughter duties.

If you’ve left everything to the last minute (again), or just plain forgotten, Southgate is your one-stop shop for gifts, pampering and special Sunday meals.

To make your job even easier, we’ve provided our retailers’ top picks for gifts, plus a quick glance guide to our restaurants’ Mother’s Day specials.

Mary Martin Bookshop’s Top Three Reads for Mum.

Everyone knows the power of a good book, so treat mum to an adventure she can enjoy from the comfort of home. The shelves at Mary Martin Bookshop are overflowing with unique and popular titles that are sure to make you seem like the most thoughtful child this Sunday.

To make shopping extra easy, the team have selected their top picks for you to peruse when searching for the new addition to Mum’s library:

Sticky Fingers, Green Thumbs by Hayley McKee (RRP $29.99) is a collection of delicious recipes that take their flavour inspiration from nature, using vegetables, herbs and edible flowers to create delicious baked treats like apple cider and zucchini muffins and porcini caramel and chestnut cake. Perfect for mums with green thumbs who love to cook with what they grow.

The Lucky Galah by Tracy Sorensen (RRP $29.99) is a charming and thoroughly Australian novel with an unusual narrator – a Galah called Lucky. It’s set in 1969 in a remote coastal town in Western Australia which, as a satellite relay point, is about to play a pivotal role in the moon landing. From a perch on the Kelly’s back verandah, Lucky observes family life and the comings and goings of a small town on the verge of making history.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart of Holly Ringland (RRP $32.99)

Beautiful and heartbreaking, this is a fantastic read for Mums who are romantic at heart.

This deeply moving novel tells the story of Alice Hart, a young girl with a traumatic past who, sent to live with her grandmother on an Australian native flower farm, learns to communicate through the language of flowers

Pick up one of these favourites or speak to one of the Mary Martin Bookshop team who will happily help you find the perfect book for your Mum, because as we all know, every mother is unique.

Mary Martin Bookshop is open 10am – 7pm Thursday, and 10am – 10pm on Friday and Saturday, providing plenty of time to zip in after a long day at the office.

This super soft and stylish scarf features a short soft fringe and is perfect for any occasion.

The Louenhide Willow bag ($99) is another great gift for Mum with the classic design and zip closure making the bag suitable for any activity, whether she’s going shopping or to a dinner date, this bag is versatile and stylish.
