Celebrating Local Community
The Southgate Gallery celebrates the creativity of Southbank locals.
It is a sanctuary where the creativity of locals finds a home. Its walls adorned with an eclectic array of mixed media; photography, words, ceramic, craft and interactive pieces – each telling a unique story of Southbank’s community.
Visitors are welcomed into the space to explore, connect, appreciate, and celebrate the diverse talents within Southbank.

The Southgate Gallery, Celebrating Creativity in Southbank was born from Southbank locals connecting and collaborating, as part of Social Imagination Workshops facilitated by Centre for Public Impact & Hinterland, in conjunction with the City of Melbourne.
The group that attended the Social Imagination Workshops are now called the Southbank Imagineers.
The Social Imagination Workshops explored what it means to belong, how to cultivate community and how to imagine a world and society that we might want to live in.

The Southbank Imagineers believe belonging is about giving and taking. Contributing. Not only having a voice, out also being heard. We imagined a place where we could be creative, connect with community and be heard.
“Everyone is creative – just some people more so, because they practice it”
